Store More Photos
With most point and shoot digital cameras quickly climbing the megapixel ladder, 6,8, and even 10 megapixel ratings are beginning to be commonplace. With Transcend SDHC cards, you can keep up with the larger files these high resolution cameras produce. With 4 GB, 8 GB, and 16 GB capacities, you can store more photos without having to delete old photos on the card before you have the chance to save them to a PC or print them out.

Store More of Everything
The larger capacities of SDHC cards make them more versatile than ever. Use them in all your mobile devices that support the SDHC standard. All that is required is an SDHC compatible slot or reader. SDHC is an extension of the original SD standard that enables capacities greater than 2 GB. It uses the same physical form factor as SD, but SDHC cards only work in SDHC compatible devices. Standard SD cards work in both SD and SDHC devices (backward compatible).

Enjoy Faster Transfer Speeds
Basic SD cards transfer data up to six times (6x) the data rate of the standard CD-ROM speed (900 kB/s). Transcend SDHC class 6 cards offer a minimum of 6 MB/s write speeds under the most demanding storage conditions. Some cameras require a high speed card to be able to record video smoothly or capture multiple still photographs in rapid succession. Check your device for maximum compatibility for your intended usage patterns.

Transcend 16 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card with Card Reader review

I’m the kind of electronics customer that does my homework first before making a purchase. This combination SDHC card and card reader are the PERFECT compliment to my digital camera and soft-case combination. The card spends most of its life inside the camera, and the adapter spends most of its life alongside the camera in a neatly tucked mini-pocket, ensuring I have easy access to my and others’ computers anytime I need to upload/download photos or other files. With this I’ve been able to stow away all awkward/bulky/knotty cables that have been such a pain in the past.

The card itself is very fast – I didn’t go all out and benchmark this as many others have already done, but rest assured this thing does NOT bottleneck my camera when shooting rapidfire RAW’s (it’s the other way around).

The size is about right for me, as I am the type to take hundreds of photos before getting around to offloading them to my computer. If I had to start over I would target 8Gb again for myself.

I would only recommend something larger if you take a TON of photos at a time (like it’s your job), or if you have the foresight to get a fast and hi-capacity card for shared/future use with a digital HD camcorder that uses the SD format.

The card reader is the envy of my office mates, where our multi-format flash card readers are dying out on our home and office computers. It has an orange light that glows when the card is being accessed (hidden behind the white plastic), and has a relatively slim profile allowing it to fit around tight nooks in computer cases that many flash drives cannot.

Transcend 8 GB SDHC Class 6 Flash Memory Card review

I recently purchased a Canon Powershot A720IS digital camera that is capable of recognizing and using up to 2 TERRABYTES of memory card (in the future) so I wanted to get the largest memory card I could install for now. I wanted to use the camera both on dry land and with an underwater housing for shooting stills and video on dive trips. Camera specs said an 8 GB SDHC card would record one hour of hi res video at 30 fps. Or nearly 2300 hi res stills at 8 megapixels.

A test of the Transcend 8GB SDHC card in the camera ended up shooting 70 minutes of full screen, 30fps digital video that could not be distinguished from my DV camcorder video quality. Playback from the memory card to the TV was so fast & efficient there was never a single “stutter” on the screen. The card speed is genuinely FAST as advertised. Low level formatting of the card allowed for very acceptable rapid-fire sequential still photo shooting speeds when light levels were bright enough that the flash was not needed/used. Something like 2 photos every 3 seconds. Files were flawless in display, both for stills and video.

This product was significantly lower in price than the Kingston 8GB SDHC card I originally bought with the camera. I’ve used both interchangeably and cannot see any different in the speed or capacity and quality of imagery is identical. For the money I’ll stick with Transcend and am looking forward to getting their 16GB card once the price drops substantially below the $100 mark. That would provide nearly 2 1/2 hours of video on my still camera or 4600 highest quality stills. I’m afraid my camcorder will be collecting dust much of the time. A big advantage to video on the card is there are NO MOVING PARTS, e.g. a mini DV tape cassette and camcorder or VCR playback unit needed to dump the video and stills to my Mac for editing and burning DVDs. I just stick the card in the MicroMate USB card reader, plug it in the computer and bingo, ready to sort thru and dump to the hard drive. Since the card is formatted by a Canon camera it automatically boots up the Canon Viewer software too. That should work the same for other brands of still cameras formatting this chip.
