Bought this camera from Amazon, came quick. This is my third digital camera, my first was purchased in 1999. This camera is compact, I actually used the Video much more than taking photos. For best results, you should use Windows Media Play, download all the appropriate software at www.afterdawn.com to view .mov files, very smooth video. Quicktime application did not do such a good job. I have Dual Core 2, with 2 gig mem on my laptop. Canon did not include Mini-HDMI to HDMI, so I had to buy one for $11 from Amazon. I highly recommend the 16G SD with this purchase, it will record about 1.5 hr in 720P HD video. that is all that you will need. I played with the manual settings, but auto mode is really the way to go, results were great. The photos appear to be a bit soft compare to my current compact camera. You should also buy a flexible, bendable, mini-tripod with this camera.

Olympus Stylus Tough-8000 12 MP Digital Camera Review

I was torn between the Canon D10 and This tough 8000 because I am a long time Canon fanatic. I had read reviews saying the Canon had better image quality. I went to a local shop to hold them in my hand. the deciding factors were that A) I couldn’t find an apreciable difference in quality taking a variety of shots inside and outside the store, B) The Olympus records sound, the Canon doesn’t, and C) the Olympus has a lens cover, the Canon doesn’t, and no matter how scratch proof they say it is I’m not taking a camera on a sand-filled Hawaiian vacation unless it can cvover the lens when int he pocket and laying around a towel.

This camera was AWESOME in every situation. It outperformed every camera my relatives brought in every situation. It focuses quick, does fine in low light, and the iAuto feature is fantastic when you need something quick and aren’t sure what settings to try. The shadow assist mode is SUPERB. The underwater shots are clear and while it has no capacity to add a red filter and therfore comes out tinted teal, it’s a one click fix in Picasa to adjust 99% of them to darn near perfect. The camera performed great for panoramas, portraits, indoors, outdoors, low light, too much light, and underwater in sometimes murky conditions

I like the “Fine” Zoom which is kind of a semi-digital zoom without the typical crappiness of digital zoom. My only complaint is that it seems you have to turn fine zoom back on for most shooting modes every time you reboot the camera. This would be one of my two complaints and it’s minor. I’ve had many cameras with scene featurs and I’ve never really used them always finding I got better pictures if I adjusted everytiong myself. In most cases with this camera, the Scene features do a really outstanding job, and the iAuto’s abiity to pick the right scene and adjustment combos is really impressive.

Battery life was great with both the original Olympus and a Maximal battery I got for $4 from Amazon. I did find the battery seemed to last longer when charged in a 3rd party charger than it did when charged in the camera off a USB cable. I’m not sure if this is user-error in the way I’m charging it or not.

My only other complaint would be the choice to use XD and a MicroSDHC adapter rather than just using SDHC cards. This limits the choice of value memory available.

           I do not know what the others are smoking or if they need glasses but the pictures are NOT blurred as what they are stating. After you take a picture, the display looks blurred at first but after a second or two after the picture completely loads it reveals the sharp & final picture. The problem with the others is that they complain at first sign of trouble without checking it out first. It’s a good camera & worth the price.

iSAPS Technology

iSAPS Technology is an entirely original scene-recognition technology developed for digital cameras by Canon. Using an internal database of thousands of different photos, iSAPS works with the advanced DIGIC 4 Image Processor to improve focus speed and accuracy, as well as exposure and white balance.

A Face Detection Self-Timer automatically detects an increase in the number of faces and makes the appropriate adjustments. For instance, to include the photographer’s face in a group shot, there’s no need to rush in. Just put the camera on a stand or tripod, specify Face Detection Self-Timer, and the camera will wait for the photographer’s face to get on-camera before it takes the shot. Motion Detection tracks moving subjects in a much larger range–allowing you to wait for the perfect shot without refocusing.

Intelligent Contrast Correction
DIGIC 4 also makes possible the i-Contrast (Intelligent Contrast Correction) system, which controls the compensation level in pixel units to brighten dark areas while leaving bright areas unchanged for better images where the main subject is dark, and more natural transition. The PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH can even use i-Contrast in playback mode to adjust images that were shot without the setting activated.

Red-eye Correction provides three options for removing red-eye from subjects in flash pictures. 1) Red-eye Correction during shooting actually identifies and corrects red-eye in human subjects as pictures are taken. 2) The PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH can be set to automatically detect and correct red-eye during image playback. 3) You can manually locate any red eyes in a scene during image playback on the LCD screen, and command the camera to remove them.

Life doesn’t give you second chances to capture special times. That’s why the PowerShot SD1200 IS Digital ELPH features an ISO 1600 setting that reduces the effects of camera shake and sharpens subjects in low-light situations, giving you greater shooting flexibility. Canon PowerShot SD1200IS 10 MP Digital Camera review

           I really like this camera. I’m pretty loyal to my point and shoot cameras, but after losing some great shots because I ran out of film one vacation, I decided to check out digital cameras. After reading the reviews on the Canon PowerShot, I decided to take the plunge and have not been disappointed. It’s small and easily fits inside my purse. I’m still on a learning curve with all of it’s features, but it’s pretty cool. The on-line manual is very helpful, but I wish it came in a booklet. To find out about the different settings, you need to review the manual. Sometime when I have the inclination, I’ll print it out. So far I have found it easy to use and my pictures have turned out really nice. I do have a tendency to move the camera when I take a picture so the stability control helps. I’ve also used a suggestion from another user to set it to the Kids and Pets setting to help with subject movements. I have not had a problem with the buttons, but I do not have large hands. I am looking forward to taking this camera on my next vacation where I’ll have an opportunity to try out the beach and aquarium settings. Along with the camera size and picture quality, I really like the fact that I can just set it on automatic or use the different settings. It’s just a great little camera for me.

This is the second RM-1 remote control that I have. The first one came with my C-2020Z camera and served me well. I used it to take some 2000 pics. In the interim, I also threw in lots of abuse for good measure |-) : I dropped it numerous times, stepped on it, etc.

When it finally conked out, the original battery was still going strong. Battery power consumption had not been an issue.

The remote control is great for taking self-portrait, or for group shots. It’s *much* better than using the self-timer: no need to run & get into position after tripping the timer!

The only problem that I experienced was when using it outdoors, its range is somewhat limited. Once when I needed to take a pic of a group of people posing next to their cars (i.e. a pic where the camera needs to be a bit of a way away), I needed to walk up closer to the camera (on a tripod) before the remote control would work.

Sony Alpha A200K 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera Kit Reviews

Sony has really done it. This isn’t gonna be a technical review, just what I feel are strong points and weak points of this camera.

This is a great camera for beginners of SLR’s to learn on but ain’t too bad for those of you who know what you are doing. I myself have had film SLR’s for many years, this is my first DSLR and cost was a factor for me. I am in no way made of money so the low price really sold me (no pun intended). The features you expect from an SLR are all there, and you can go from full auto to full manual and every point in between in a just a flip of a switch and the pressing of a few buttons to set up your shot.

Built in Image Stabilization is a great feature to have, especially when some camera makers build it into the lens, which, in turn, makes your lens prices considerably higher.

Some people complain about no live view on the LCD, but I personally prefer no live view. It saves on some battery life and it makes it feel like more of a real camera and less of a point and shoot. If you want live view, wait for the A300K

The camera feels sturdy and isn’t too big or small. I have very large hands and the camera feels good in my hands. It is mostly plastic, which in a way can feel a bit cheap but doesn’t seem to be a problem at this time.
ISO setting is great. If you want to shoot in low light situations you have ISO settings up to 3200 with a supposed noise reduction but I haven’t checked that out yet. I personally have it set on 100 and will keep it there for the least amount of noise.

Media options are GREAT!!! Sony MemorySticks are ridiculously priced. Especially when you need to have a high capacity one for these big pics (esp. shooting in RAW). Luckily this camera takes CompactFlash cards, which are some of the cheapest one you can get. (I got mine here on Amazon 4GB for $42).
The only thing I have a problem with on this camera is that you have to pay an extra $12 for an LCD protector (small plastic cover for LCD screen). Some camera makers include this with their SLR’s. Sony should have included this as well.

Just don’t forget the accessories. It will be nice to get the 70mm-300mm lens (which I got for $229) for those far away and macro shots. Screen protector is $12. Memory will vary by the amount you get. I also bought a nice tripod/monopod for $40.

So that’s it. With this camera you will be taking very nice pictures, at high resolutions and at a reasonable price. There are very few downfalls in the design, and a lot of extremely nice features. Hope this helps with your decision.

This camera is just fantastic, a little beauty. Amazing, excellent, really fun. Superb optics, great feel, cute and portable. I was getting bored with my Nikon D-80, ready for a move up. Considered getting the D-90, but then the Pentax K-7 was released with HDR built-in. Wanted t get back to Olympus, and considered the E-30, and the 620, but I left my decision for so long that the PEN was released. Glad I waited. The PEN is so much fun, its great to have a new toy. The price is just right for an everyday camera, and is size is so much better compared to carefully backpacking around a big d-SLR.

And the results …. the pics are superb! Just amazing. Face detection works like a charm. The video is stunning, just brilliant. The shutter is so quick, really responsive, no lag time. The art scenes are so fun to use. Funny little shutter noise. And I still haven’t take it off Auto yet! Nice to have some fun exploring.

I received this two days ago and was really unsure about the T1i. I’ve read what scant reviews existed on Amazon and became somewhat concerned about the complaints of soft images. In the brief time I tested it I noticed my shots were coming out soft as well compared to my S3. Then after toying around with the settings I found that the “Standard” profile’s sharpness was set on low. Not having dug that deep into the menu system, I believe it was the default setting making the images really soft. I now have it on max, or near max, and am more satisfied with the images. While increasing sharpness, images remain really smooth even at high ISOs. Overall, I’m more satisfied with the unit now that I’ve got the image sharpening down. With that said I still have more deliberating to do.

A note about video: I do enjoy having the video capability on the camera only because you can set the WB, unlike a Flip. I can’t squeeze 1080 out of my system anyway so 720 works just fine. As others have pointed out, the autofocus is a bit odd to get used to but manageable in video. You’re better off shooting fixed distances. Noise is loud during focus, but if you’re putting together a clip most likely you’ll overlap it with an audio track instead.
