I passed by Bestbuy earlier the day I bought this to get a feel as to what size the bag really is. The bag is not too big but also not too small. I have a D40x with two lenses, the stock 18-55mm Nikkor as well as a 55-200 Nikkor. I also have a few filters, a small telephoto lens and a wide photo lens and although the bag is not too big, it fits all these easily and snugly! It really depends on what you need and want. It can also fit the cleaning pen along with any extra batteries in it’s inside and front pouches. The charger fits in the side pockets ( if you take the cord and put it in the other pocket). I like this bag as it really fits my needs. It is well made and the yellow stripe and the Nikon emblem add a nice touch. Now be aware that if u really want to fit any thing other in this bag than what I described above it might be difficult. I know some would like to fit their camcorder too and this would not be a bag for them. So I give this bag 5/5 because it really fits my needs. My advice is this, if u are not sure about the size and how it looks, drop by the near Bestbuy and check it out, They have it as a part of a kit (including the same DVD and an extra battery) and retails for 99$. As for the DVD it is a good starter DVD for people who never used an SLR before but for me it was just too basic so I gave it to my friend.

I have had this bag now for over 9 months and can honestly say it has more then surpassed my expectations. It stores everything I need when out with family or friends to catch all the action in one convenient place.

In the center of the bag I have the following:
1. Rebel XT body
2. Canon 430EX Flash
3. 17mm-85mm Lens
4. 75mm-300mm Lens
5. Sony Handycam Video Recorder
6. Power plug for charging Video Recorder

On the sides I store the Battery Chargers and Batteries for Flash, Camera and Video Camera, plus Tapes for the Video Camera. The front holds all the manuals for everything and a few extra Memory Cards and lens covers. Even after this, there is still space in the bag for other things. The bag has held up very well and can see no signs of wear or tear after dragging this bag all over the place for the last 9 months.

This is a good bag for the money. it’s not a great bag, but very useable. with a few bucks and a trip to REI, it can be made much better however.

first, get yourself a 40 inch long, 1 inch wide webbing lashing strap, with a quick release buckle on the end. should be about 2 bucks. use that to wrap the bag through the lashing anchors on the sides of the bag. this acts as a very good compression strap, and gives you an added measure of security. close the bag with the zippers below the strap, and it’s harder for would be thieves to open your bag while you are carrying it. it also allows you to open the top half of the bag, and grab your camera without letting the other contents of the bag fall out. since the top of the backpack is cut inwards, the camera is fairly easy to grab for those quick shots. not as fast as a messenger bag, but better than having to put your bag on the ground to get your camera out.

next, get a pack of 1 inch tri glide buckles. use those to tidy up the 40 inch lashing strap, and the long adjustable shoulder straps. stuff the waist strap into the small storage area in the bottom back of the bag, and poof! you now have a neat, and much more useable bag for a few bucks more.

a velbon luxi SF tripod fits great into the front pocket with the 1/4 inch compression cords.

great bag, could use some more padding though.

Lowepro Topload Zoom 1 Camera Bag (Black) review

I just chose the Lowepro Topload Zoom 1 for my new Nikon D50. It has a shoulder strap, belt loops, handle, top opens toward you instead of away, inside pocket, front pocket and it is just the right size (length and width)for the D50. The depth is a little more than the 18-55 lens needs but just right for the 18-200 zoom, that I plan to get soon, which is 0.9 inch longer.

PS: I have been using the Lowepro TLZ Mini (same features but smaller size) with another camera for three years and am very satisfied with it.

Olympus Evolt Camera Gadget Bag review

This bag is genuine Olympus and a high quality bag. I bought it to hold my Olympus E-510 which came with two lenses. I can fit everything that came in the E-510 kit (body, lenses, cables, manual and charger) into the bag. I can also fit my FL-36 flash (w/case) and two spare batteries. It’s a tight fit, so if you like a lot of room for your stuff you should stay away from this bag.

About the bag… it has a permanent shoulder strap and permanent hand strap. To open the bag one must release both the front catch and the hand strap catch. There is a pouch with velcro closure on the front. Inside, the top has a zippered compartment with a see-through web front. The bag comes with two dividers – one that attaches with velcro so it can be placed anywhere along the length of the bag. This divider also has a “wing” attached which can keep separate an extra lens. The second divider is u-shaped and can be used for a false bottom under the camera. It’s good for storing the heavy cable and charger, mini tripods etc.

If you don’t need a lot of room, this bag is just the ticket.
